One way to do so is to try to have the wooden gate varnished or lacquered, or even painted, since paint, varnish, or lacquer not only gives the wooden gate a sleeker, more chic finish; they also add strength to the wood as well. But then, always make sure that the wood is sanded or smoothed out first.
